I swear to you that I'm not trying to make anybody feel bad!...But, I figured I'd start this thread anyway. This seems to be a relative topic for this genre of modeling. So, what does your wife, girlfriend, significant other think of you modeling nude or almost nude women? I have not ventured into this realm of modeling yet, besides on the web. Obviously I'm interested or I wouldn't be here. For some reason, I don't think my wife would be too happy with me. Is this an issue for you? As if getting my wife to put up with me modeling tanks wasn't hard enough, I don't even know that I even want to go there with this topic. Chime in and tell us your experience. Also, do you find it acceptable to have models of realistic or anime figures that are nude or nearly nude just sitting on the fireplace mantel? Or, is this just a little secret for you that you keep in the basement with your modeling stuff? Nothing wrong with that I should think. ;D I really am interested in hearing your answers.

Generally when i was setting up this site i heard a lot of guys say " my wife wont like it if i do this" which is why i set up the site since no one would let me add a female section to any other site. My first comment when i hear this is " have you asked her?" have you explained and given her some ideas of what it is you want to build or paint? generally again men seem too think that it will upset their partners and that they will appear abnormal to their loved one and so try to shield them from this area of the hobby. This is a classic virgin/wh*re syndrome where we want the sweet innocent woman who just happens to amazing at making love. We as men tend to put women on pedastals, something we should avoid.
This isn't about pornography, this is about creating something and being able to show off your skills. Men have painted, drawn and sculpted nude women for centuries and this is just another art form for me. So instead of hiding those female figure kits, why don't you ask your partner what they think rather than trying to guess, you'd be surprised at what some of the responses would be!
well that's my tuppence worth!

She isn't too happy about the horrible monsters I've done so you'd this would be OK. As long as they are tastefully done and only a few I think I'll be fine. Haven't done a nude yet, and probably won't. It might be pushing it.

Well, I dont do nudes, just my rule....my wife does have one rule and that is no models where the breasts are bigger than the head ;D which I dont have a problem with....so no Overdard kits then As for why we do this....welll, we're artists, why does any artist paint a female. I could get philosophical but the best quote I have is from Core when they were working on Tomb Raider "If you'r going to spend a long time on a character you may as well enjoy looking at them". p.s. just wanted to add one thing. I think it's the ultimate test of modelling to get skin tones right on a body, and I feel more comfortable attempting this on a female than a scantily clad male

I've never equated nudity with pornography, I find that the majority of female kits are beautiful studies of the female form. Luckily my other half (is a former art student) and she has the same outlook.
The only kit I've personally found to be offensive was the Jack the ripper kit from Styrene Studios. I thought that whilst it was well sculpted, the subject was dodgy.
regards
Jamie
PS - I agree with your comments Phantom Major, but you're posting raises one question.
What's a virgin? lol!

My ex never had a problem with the nude kits, and as Rip said, she was a good critic when something seemed off. My 11 year-old daughter just makes jokes about the "boobies", ;D so she likes the monsters better.
My big worry now is what is gonna' happen when I meet somone else, but I'll tell ya' one thing; I'm not hiding them if she doesn't like them.

My ex was very supportive of my hobby, and a great critic, especially on the makeup part. It even got her into painting Warhammer figures. My current fiance is the same way, very supportive and an even better critic. And now she enjoys painting Reaper minis, she even won an award and sold one on Ebay! I know its easier when you already have the hobby when you meet someone, its just something they can accept or not. Its hard when youve been married for years and then want to get into the female figures, just depends on the wifes self esteem. The best way to approach it is start with clothed figures, and stay away from the erotic nudes like the porno types. The JJ models can be tasteful though. Just keep em "clean" and eas your way into it, consulting with her first. One of my figure customers says his wife always makes jokes about his nudie babes, now she collects "hunks" like the barbarians and the Wolverine from the Xmen movie sporting the muscle arms and six pack stomach. Just be open with it and dont hide it.

Have only had one that I did that she even raised an eyebrow over. It was Candi Apples if I remember the name correctly and was a Jimmy Flinstone model I believe. Kinda' layed back and nothing to the imagination. Actually tasteless would be a better discription. LOL. The rest she inspects for proper filling and primer and then asks "how long before you finish this one?" I'm somewhat slow with the final paints. What can I say?

Hi,after 20+yrs photographing models[living]in various states of undress for a living ,my wife has no problems with plastic models nude or otherwise, though porn was never on the menu.she also sculpts figures, better than me,ive just started, but nudes will be sculpted.I suggest being up front about it, honesty shouldn't get you into trouble.

personally, there are different styles of nudity and i dont really feel they can all be classified in the same way. some nude figures are extremely tasteful and artistic. others are just what some people assume, pornographic.
if i see a nude kit i like, i show it to my husband. he's pretty much of the same mind as i am. tasteful nudity= ok, nudity+tentacle beast (or siilar themes, ect lol)= BAD.
as for where id display nude figures, no they wouldnt be in my living room. They'd probably on a shelf in the bedroom. we've got a 2 yr old always around and my step kids are 7 and 9. not something they need to be asking about. i can see my hubby's ex- "Why do you have naked women in your living room! im not allowing the kids over ever again!"
