Hi all,
I am a newbie to this group and relatively new to figures, although I have long experience in scale modeling. I want to do a figure in the 1/7-1/9 scale range dressed in something like a negligee, like you might see in a vintage pinup illustration. I am planning on starting with one of the Solarwind figures and modifying her to suit.
Is there a way to paint the "sheer fabric" look on a solid model? I am especially studying this regarding places where the fabric is not laying directly against the body.
Any ideas or "points" to some specific techniques would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

your very problem is tackled in Andrea's book "Painting Girls" basically you are going to need a double action airbrush... this is so that you can regulate how much paint flows from the airbrush.
you will cover the figure with flesh tones then go over the areas that are supposed to have translucent clothing with the colour of cloth you want too have, the idea being that the skin tones will still be seen through the cloth colour paint.... you could also get David Fishers videos called "Model Mania" he gives a physical demonstration of his airbrush skills and the idea you are trying to acheive...hope this helps

G'day Major,
Thanks for the advice. I've heard of that book and I'll hunt one up.
Cheers, Jim

jkiker,
i got mine online from red lancers in Pennsylvania USA... i dare say if you do a search on amazon or something similar you'll find it but i would recomend the david fischer video's at least you can see it being done on the tv rather than following step by step pictures....good luck

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the "point." It was indeed helpful! My basic plan is to start with a nude figure, add someputty where needed to represent sheer cloth that is not touching, and paint it somwehat like these examples. Wish me luck- I'm going to need it!
Thanks again, Jim

Hello Jkiker. I´m newbie too . Ihave read your post and I think you are looking for something like this: The name of this figure is Summun Guardian and it´s one of my figures. I don´t speak english very well but I suppose that I could to explain how I have painted it. Although I´m not sure that you could understand me . (but if you want it could try) A kiss: Pepa.

Yes, sundance the guardian indeed isn´t wearing a negligee...I talked about the girl Model citizen, it is 1/6 scale. Although it measures 36 cm of overall height (+ or -). This figure is very nice and is deserved that you buy it and you paint it Thanks both: Pepa.

Actually i prefer Pepa's version without the helmet, the ugliness of the demon adds to the beauty of the girl as well as displaying the wonderful painting skills that Pepa has !

Sorry Sundance , but I hadn´t understood to you well. Indeed the kit complete includes the helmet, but as it says Phantom Major, I wanted to show the ugliness of the guardian in contrast (in opposition) to beauty of the girl. Also it wanted that all the bulks and warts of the head of the monster were seen. In this general photo it is not appraised, but in that I show to you next it sees clearly. He doesn´t have ears, that pity . Kisses: Pepa. (And Thanks again)
