I may be wrong here in my understanding of alot of these anime kits. If I am , someone correct me.. though some are kits ..and numerous recasts are to be found.. but alot of these anime kits, from what I understand are never actually produced as kits. sculptors present only a few examples at shows in hopes of either being picked up by companies who do the PVC figures or statues, or by companies who produce garage kits. Then along comes companys like Hobby Fan... they either buy the original there on the spot to recast, or if the figure was made only as a PVC figure (as most animes are) then they buy the PVC and recast it as a kit. This was how it was explained to me from one of the guys at Hobbyfan.. now, whether they and the original maker have an agreement or not I do not know. One thing I can say is, that Hobbyfans castings are some of the best kits Ive ever seen, even rivaling Solarwinds casting. (No I do not support the recasters who steal) But from what I understand, companies like Hobbyfan do pay the original makers a portion of the earnings of each kit sold... so I am told. Thats why they are allowed to continue to sell these here in the states without being constantly sued.

Most kits sold at Japanese kit events are only produced in limited quantities. It's mostly due to what they are willing to pay for liceninsing to produce the kit. Most times its only a one day license to sell at a specific event. In most cases its not even the sculptor's choice on the number of kits and when it can be sold, but what the actual license holder will allow. You'll notice theres a lot more kits of characters from some shows than others. Some license holders just dont give any permission to sell anything based on their characters (Gunnm anyone? >.< ) Your best bet to find originals is to check out Yahoo! Japan. Most likely you'll have to go through a deputy service to buy from there which will cost a small fee, but many times its worth it to get the originals. Here's a write up on how to use Y!J auctions. gkjapan.com/showthread.php?t=31Here's also a link that lists a few online stores that supply original kits and supplies from Japan. gkjapan.com/showthread.php?t=33One of our board admins at GKJ also sells some stuff from his personal collection. Worth it to check back once in a while to see if he's updated anything. Most times he'll list stuff for event price or less. gkjapan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=26
