Well I spent big $ on a 1/6 Alien Queen. It is a resin kit that is 31" long 16" tall (in a running pose).
I have a few painting ideas and was looking for a few more.I was thinking of using black lacquer auto paint as a base colour. Then adding pearl purple and/or blue in a clear coat over the black to give it a colour shift effect.
Anyone else have any ideas they could add?
Any help would be great and no idea or tip will be over looked.
Thanks Jim

Hi Jim In my opinion black matt will be better for a base colour. Then highlihgting and shadeing with dark blue and blue. In case using enamels - drybrushed, if You use acryls- many almost transparent coats of paint. If You paint with oils, IMO better will be dark blue base, then black oil allover, grinding with brush and highlighted with blue and white. Sorry for my english- it is not my nativ language, but i hope so, you can understand my post and techniques descripted in. best regards

When I did my horizon alien I sprayed a metallic bronze basecoat after priming it well of course, over that I washed and drybrushed to acheive the effects I wanted. I wasnt sure what colour would be best but prefered to be able to lighten and darken the figure to suit. It wan't the best paintjob in the world but I was happy with the end result.

Thanks for the input gens. I'll give some of your ideas on the other kit I've got on the way as it's a much cheaper one to play around with. Thanks again for the help. Jim

Jim,
I'd have to go with both Kamil and Kornbeef. Kamil with the dark base coat, I'd recommend a flat gunmetal gray and Kornbeef with the dry brushing for the accent. Colors there? Your scheme would probably work just fine. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.
