Hi all, I know the picture isn't that great but you will be able to get an idea of the figure i am currently working on. I am experimenting with my new double action airbrush, unitl now i have only had a single action so this is my first attempt a painting with it so far. The figure it'self is 1/12 in scale and is made of resin and i picked up from a show in Dundee from Ian Hanratty of Friendship Models. a late update as of 00:45 in the morning, i've just finished painting her thigh length boots. I'll be adding any touch ups in the morning and then sealing them with some clear matt varnish

well folks i have almost finished this figure now, just a few little jobs to take care of, like making a base for her to stand on and that will be it ! One of the problems i did encounter was after i had sprayed on the flesh tones. After i had sealed them in using Hubrol's Matt clear varnish i noticed that it wiped out the differences in dark and light tones, making the colours appear all the same. I was able to recover this by using some oil washes. So let me know what you think so far? i have now added a brief review of the kit which you can reach by clicking the link below: phantommajor.proboards22.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=cfems&thread=1127585729

Hi Major,
As has been said, nice work! I am not familiar with the Humbrol clears, but in my other modeling I often use clear acrylic gloss and flat coats over enamel and lacquer-based flat paints. What I see with some colors is that the gloss makes the colors appear darker, and occasionally the different color tones seem to change. Then when I finish with clear flat, almost all of the original tones reappear. In my case, I think it's due more to changes in the surface reflectivity than anything else.
It may be worth a try on some scrap to duplicate what you did on this figure up to the Humbrol gloss coat and see if the same thing happens. If so, trying a clear flat might take things back to where you want them. Of course, if you've already tried all this, kindly disregard everything after "nice work!"
HTH, Jim

Jim, thanks for the heads up on that idea, i'll give a whirl sometime soon when i get back too the UK...i do know that a while back that humbrol changed the chemical mix of their paints and aimed them towards the airbrush market( they are really poor quality now for drybrushing with) As for the figure, well the fit was superb with very little needed in the way of filling or putty, i'll have to do another one of these again some day but even now while i am in another country i still haven't given up on buying things on ebay... 4 more kits should be waiting for me when i get home !!!! oh dear i think i melted the credit card again !

Ive tried Citadel matt (airbrushed from the small pot not the aerosol which the fellow in Games Workshop advised against due to problems with it!) on Karnie and must give it a massive thumbs up, GO CITADEL!!!!!

Tamiya acrylic thinners. It looks a bit iffy when you first mix it but sprays just fine!
