hi folks, i am writing to tell you all that i am currently creating a new website and forum dedicated too the world of modelling and all the aspects and genre's that this hobby lives in. It is something i have been planning for a while now since the end of last year but it is only recently that i have managed to organise things too the point of where i want them to be. I also plan to include this site but in the form it is currently in however i am receiving a few problems with Proboards who are the hosts for this site. basically what i want to do is get hold of a copy of a flat file, this is a database of this entire site which includes every post made. the idea of this, is to upload it on too the new PHPBB site so that there would be a smooth transition later on when the new main site went live. I know that i posted a poll asking on your thoughts about adding an armour section too this site and the vote went against the idea as i dare say some people felt uncomfortable adding new items too the site but this different as this forum will become an integral part of the new site alas Proboards don't want or are unwilling to supply me with that file which would mean i would have to copy and paste every thread manually ( there are somewhere in the region of over 2000 posts) this isn't really an option or i would have to link this site too the new main site once it was created which would mean having a forum that would cover every subject bar this one and then having a seperate link to this site. The idea is that if every topic in modelling was listed on one site then i twould be easier to navigate around and view all the sections of the new forum rather than having to jump around all the time, in effect making a one stop shop. So what is going to happen; well at the moment and for the foreseeable future nothing, this forum will remain active and open unless Probaords decide too shut this site down ( which i view as highly unlikely) if that should happen thenit would that the female figure forum would be re-born on the new forum but all the posts and information would be lost. in the mean time relax, don't panic and enjoy the site, everything will remain the same for a good while yet. oh i nearly forgot you can get a brief glimpse of what the new forum will look like by visiting this link...there isn't much too see but you will get the general idea scalemodelworld.net/forums/

Don't get me wrong Proboards are good and a great starting block for people like me to learn about forums and i would still recomment them to people who want to start a Bulletin Board... but this was never going to be a permenant solution for me as i have always wanted a fully intergrated site with the Female Figure Forum being a core subject and not marginalised or even ignored as it is on 99% of other sites. and yes i'll post more info when i have it as well as updates. Looks pretty good to me. I have to admit in rethinking what I stated about not incorporating other forms of modeling into the forum. Though this is solely as titled a Female Figure Modeling forum, I wouldve stayed with my opinion on it,but, since youve decided to create a new forum, I think its a great idea. I know most of us here have our hands dirty with other types of modeling be it scifi, military, or whatever. Im even a member to other forums as well, 4 others in fact. The best idea I see of your new forum would be not only for all of us to share our other ventures, but also would get other "non" female figure modelers interested in this area. Hopefully. As long as this part is not pushed to the back as other sites do. On the subject of integrating the posts here with the other forum, I wouldnt know where to begin with transfering everything there. If it did come down to copying and pasteing, I dont think it would be necessary to do all of them. I know alot of the older posts have lost the pics and some arent "enlightening" to the subject anyway. So, where do I sign up sir?

Sign me up too! We can always repost to the new site when its live or perhaps have a gallery of our figures we can cross reference to PM their creators. Surely copying some of them over or asking people if they wouldnt mind reposting wouldnt be too bad. Most of mine are still on photobucket anyway.
The site looks pretty cool but make sure female figure take a prominent position I'd hate to loose the good colleagues I've come across here.
If I can do anything to help just ask! I'm not overly technical mind!

when will this new forum go "online" as far as its use and telling others about it. Also, do you have a banner made up for anyone wishing to link to it? I'll promote it wherever Im allowed.

kornbeef,
feel free to sign in, there is a description on how to do it further up this thread !
basically the new forum is a phpBB powered site... it has way more options than i will ever get here and it is free...i could probably get the same options but i'd have to pay for them.
back in february it was suggested that we should have a members gallery where people can submit their best work, you wouldn't be commenting on it but simply strolling by as if you were in a museum looking at works of art ( which they are in my mind at least)
there would also be a buiult in gallery too store your pictures although i'm not sure how much file space and individual would get and i think it might be restrictive...something like a few megs of space but i feel it would help those who aren't too good with computers by having it all under one roof.
i really want to incorperate FFF into it, it might have to be trimmed alittle, for example all the anime sections might go but you could still post those figures in the clothed or nude section depending on what genre they fitted into....don't get me wrong folks i'm not about too close it down on here... nothing is going to change here as far as i am concerned for next month or so.
i had hoped i could get a database file called a flat file from proboards, this would mean i could simply lift every post and comment on here and up load it into the new forum site...proboards are being a little obstructive in this matter...actually i need to go back to their site and see if there have been any more devlopements.
if i don't get this file it will basically leave me 3 options,
copy and paste 2000+ posts on to the new site... or just the more recent ones...say 10% of all posts, that would be about 200 !
restart the FFF completely from scratch...no chance
or, i could have this as a seperate forum on the website ( this might be my best option at the moment...and have a slow migration too a new section on the new site.) however it wouldn't be as fully inegrated as i would like but might stop some problems with people complaining about nudity.
personally i think embedding this site into a new site and having this forum running parallel would work better for the moment, that way people wouldn't have to deal with any change, the site and everythig else would remain the same as it is now without any pruning.
it's something i have to consider, proboards is a great learning block when it comes to making and running forums and up until this sticking point it's been a great time but at the end of the day decisions have to be made.
when i have a better idea of the way the future is i'll post a poll or something and let the members here decide.

When will we go online? that's a good question, the plan was to have everything up and running and then do the big opening launch which was what happened here. this was worked on with only a select few 2-3 people knowing about it and so it was easier to deal with .
This time however certain events have made this impractical... i had hoped to have everything smoothed over, links working, new avatars, moderators trained etc but realistically it's to much work to do and keep the site under wraps. afterall i'm running this site (FFF) whilst building a new one and selling figures online, not to mention the day job lol
to give you some idea, lastnight i went to bed at 11:30 pm after finishing a section on the new site...at 2am i remembered i had to sorting something out that was very important other wise several people who i am friendly with online would be able to reach me and i couldn't pass on vital information...i then went back to bed and at 4:30am had to get up to go to work as i work dayshift for the next 7 days. needless too say, i'm burning the midnight oil at the moment.
as for banners and promotion work, spreading the word etc...go for it! Ben, the guy who's my technical support and all round computer genius ( that's not joke by the way, what he doesn't know about computers isn't worth knowing... he's the one helping argue about the database flat file)...any way Ben has sent me a zipped file which i haven't opened yet but i suspect there will be banners and logo's in it.
if there are banners in it and you know how to rig up the hyperlink gateways then i'll e'mail one too you or i could add it too my photobucket account and post you the address.
ok, i need food and sleep, i'll be back on in a while...oh and i'll PM you soon as well

Someone has raised an important point and that is, will the FFF be closing down, the answer too that is No
since i haven't been able to get a copy of the flat file to ransfer data onto the new site then this site will run in tandem with the new one and there will be a link on the actual website which will have the new forum embedded.
you will still be able to access this site in the usual manner and there is nothing to worry about.
i hope this clarifies things for those of you out there might be worried, it was my own fault for not making this clearer earlier and i apologise.
